Audi is known for its beautiful craftsmanship, luxurious refinement and class-leading quattro AWD system. However, there is a common sentiment amongst auto journalists and professionals: Audi’s weakness is their steering feel/response. And while we are Audi fanatics here at EuroCode, we are inclined to agree- the steering is just not as precise as some of its competitors. With this in mind, EuroCode set out to bring our Audis that much closer to perfection with this exclusive Alu Kreuz (pronounced “Aloo Kroitz’) drivetrain stabilizer piece. This is one part of our ÜSS system that comprises of our swaybars and endlinks (see related products below).
Is this for track enthusiasts only or can daily drivers benefit from this too?
A quick search on Audizine confirms that this mod is not only a night-and-day difference, but also a must-have upgrade for any Audi owner (hardcore enthusiast or otherwise). The decision to add an exhaust or change wheel size is one where there are costs and benefits, and the consumer must make a choice based on what they are willing to sacrifice (better exhaust note vs more drone, better aesthetics with bigger wheels vs harsher ride due to increased diameter, etc.). With that said, this is one of the only aftermarket modifications where you have nothing to lose and a big improvement to gain for a relatively affordable price. Even if you do not push your car to the limit, you will still benefit from the added refinement on long highway trips, slow parking lot turns, or that favorite on ramp you like to attack on your commute to work. It literally benefits the end user in every driving scenario you can imagine- the reason being that it improves both sportiness and refinement. Rarely can a modification do both, so no matter which side of the fence you appreciate more, the increase in both those aspects is present.
How will it improve my vehicle?
- Better steering response- both at the limit and in normal day-to-day driving
- Improved steering accuracy- more “point and shoot” versus a vague steering feel
- Less “play” or sloppiness- better composure on uneven pavement with less shimmying
- Less torsional flex from the chassis (some even report less creaking in the interior)
- Vastly improved driving dynamics along with increased refinement
So what is it?
The Alu Kreuz is a solid one-piece lightweight aluminum structural member that replaces the stock unit. During our testing of the b8 and B8.5 chassis cars (Audi A4, S4, A5, S5, Q5 and RS5), we found that there was quite a bit of torsional flex coming from the factory subframe/engine carrier. This torsional flex produced what we felt to be incorrect steering sensitivity and response in all aspects of driving. To combat this unwanted characteristic, we did a thorough examination of the front suspension, chassis unibody, and the engine carrier/subframe. Our conclusion was that the OEM hollow steel drivetrain stabilizer underperformed.
When creating this product, our first step was to analyze the material that the factory stabilizer was made up of and then create a load case scenario in which to test it under. We sent out a sample for materials testing and found the factory stabilizer to be made up of carbon steel with a density of 0.284 lb/in3, predominately hollow and stamped into shape. The OEM stabilizer is made up of nine separate pieces, and they are all welded together to form one single unit. Once all of this data was collected and loaded, our team set out with the goal of improving chassis rigidity and weight reduction. Our team found that a replacement stabilizer manufactured out of billet aluminum would accomplish our goals, so the next step was the design process.
Our design process went through several revisions, with each version being loaded into computer modeling to test how it would stack up against the inferior OEM product; these revisions were also built and tested not only on the road, but as well as on a closed course with the feedback provided by a professional driver to the design engineers. The Alu Kreuz is also nearly two pounds lighter than the OEM brace and greatly improves chassis torsional rigidity. It looks amazing as well.
Independent analysis was performed on the product and the conclusions were that in each of the pre set load case scenarios, the Alu Kreuz deflected less than the OEM stabilizer, carries less stress for a given applied load and the fatigue life of the product is greater than OEM.
Fits 2013 and up B8.5 - A4/A5/S4/S5/RS5 & 8R - Q5/SQ5
Some early B8.5 model Allroads have an additional metal bracket attached to the OEM brace. This additional bracket does not get reinstalled when using this product.
*Does Not Fit right hand drive or Cabriolet cars *
Customers running an aftermarket metal skid plate will require longer than normal belly pan bolts when reinstalling the kit. If you need these please request them in the comments section durring checkout.
